Paris, Day 2, Louvre, Tuileries, L'Orange Museum

On our second day in Paris, we got up bright and early, bought a Chocolate Suisse and fruit and ate breakfast on the train on the way to the Louvre. We spent about 6 hours there and were delighted that we could take pictures!

The building itself was exquisite, and the art--ooh la la, tres magnifique!

 

 

For lunch, we went into the attached mall and shared a Panini sandwich with basil and mozerella cheese.

This dessert of cream puffs in chocolate sauce just hit the spot!

Then we went back into the Louvre to explore the magnificent Egyptian exhibit.

 

 When we left the Louvre, we walked over to the beautiful Tuileries Garden and fountain.

I thought I'd try to get inside the crack in this tree. Actually it is a sculpture behind a tree.

We happened upon the lovely L'Orange Museum, an art gallery of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings located in the west corner of the Tuileries Garden. It is famous for being the permanent home for eight Water Lilies murals by Claude Monet. We were astounded by how huge the murals are. The museum also displayed works by Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Rousseau, Maurice Utrillo and others.

We walked passed the Grand Palais and the Petite Palais and then along the Seine in the intermittent rain.

We stopped in a market and bought an avocado, a sandwich, and some fruit and yogurt to share. We took the train home and happily crashed about 9 p.m. with very tired feet.
